National Eye Institute

The National Eye Institute (NEI), part of the National Institutes of Health, is the Federal government's principal agency for conducting and supporting vision research aimed at improving the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of diseases that affect the eye and vision. Through its Office of Communication, Health Education, and Public Liaison, the NEI responds to requests for information on eye diseases and vision disorders from both professional and lay audiences. The Office of Communication provides information directly, distributes publications, and provides referrals to clinical trials and other organizations and agencies, when appropriate.
