American Academy of Ophthalmology

The American Academy of Ophthalmology's (AAO) mission is to advance the lifelong learning and professional interests of ophthalmologists to ensure that the public can obtain the best possible eye care. The AAO provides professional and public education and ophthalmic advocacy, practice, and relations for its 16,000 members.

EyeCare America: National Eye Care Project (1-800-222-EYES), a program that provides medical eye exams and treatment to people 65 and older who have not seen an ophthalmologist in 3 years, at no out-of-pocket expense to the patient.

EyeCare America: Glaucoma Project (1-800-391-EYES), a project designed to reduce the risk of blindness from undetected and untreated glaucoma by educating the public and primary care physicians about risk factors and by providing an initial eye exam to qualified callers regardless of their ability to pay.
